Geneseo Trims Aledo Eleven 7-0
Geneseo played good football last Friday night in defeating Aledo, 7-0 at Aledo. The Leafs outplayed Aledo in all
departments throughout the game except in punting.
Coach Robert Reades team gained lots of yardage and turned in impressive gains through the first three
quarters, advancing deep into Green Dragon territory, only to be thwarted by a fumble, pass interception or a
It looked like a possible scoreless tie until only three minutes remained when halfback Dave Wright smashed
over from the three yard line for a score. Steve Hawkins kicked the extra point to make it 7-0 for the Leafs. The
drive started for Geneseo on their own 40 yard line after a 15 yard penalty had been given to the Green
Dragons. From here, Dave Wright, Jim Evans, and Jerry Kane pounded the tackles and the center of the Aledo
line for four first downs in 15 plays to cross into scoring territory. It was a sustained drive and a team effort that
accomplished the victory.
On the line, Geneseo's Jim Chapman was a stalwart on defense and offense. Bob Baylor and Bill Klemm were
great on defense and Vincent Heller and Alan Shoemaker each played excellent football. Sid Kemmis handled
the quarterback assignment in excellent fashion.
Geneseo's team has great spirit according to Coach Reade, and will make their presence felt this year in the
tough North Central conference. Coach Reade said that Geneseo has a great spirit as a community and that this
is reflected in the attitude of the boys when they play and practice. He also said that the Geneseo varsity had
been fortunate in not having any serious injuries this season. If we can continue to avoid injuries, we should
give any team we face a good game, he said.
See you this Friday for Green Machine Classic #3!
